WordPress works well “out the box.”
But it could be better.
Hopefully, you downloaded the necessary plugins already. If not, keep reading as I’ll mention each again here (along with some other worthwhile tips).
This lesson is all about ACTION. Follow these instructions right now. Don’t wait.
These optimizations will make your site faster, safer and more search-engine friendly.
#5. Install W3 Total Cache
I’ve mentioned this before, so we won’t take a lot of time. In a nutshell, this plugin makes your site faster. Install the plugin here and follow these instructions exactly.
#4. Install Yoast SEO Plugin
Install this plugin and follow the suggestions on each page. Really, it’s that simple to optimize your site. Then, when you’re writing your post use the on-page optimization suggestions (these will help your post rank for a specific phrase).
Here’s what it looks like:
#3. Install WP-Smush.it
Smush.it automatically optimizes your images for the web, making them smaller and (consequently) faster to load. It’s automatic, so you don’t have to do anything different. Just install it and you’re ready to go.
#2. Remove plugins you aren’t using
Pretty self-explanatory.
Extra plugins can slow down your site. Go to your Plugins tab and uninstall anything you’re not using.
#1. Do steps 2 - 5
Don’t just read this, nod your head and move on to something else. Set aside a half hour to actually implement these steps. Your blog will be faster, safer and optimized for the search engines.
Now get to work!
